Marion Gamel will join our team in January 2016 as the new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for Betsson Group. Marion, a French National, has spent seven years at Google in various country marketing functions ranging from UK to Pakistan.
Her latest role at Google was head of marketing for Emerging markets, tasked with driving Googles rapid growth on key products in the region. Following Google Marion became Vice President of marketing for Eventbrite.
Marion will be a great asset for Betsson as when we set out to strengthen our country marketing organisation.
Marion started her career 20 years ago in Paris in the fashion industry. After working for various international fashion houses, organising events, she moved to London in 1994.
In 1995, Marion co-founded the first magazine for the modelling industry: NG Magazine. Time Out became NG’s distributor and the publication reached 45,000 issues worldwide.
While attempting to put NG magazine online, Marion caught “the Internet bug” and in 2000 started working for the European online advertising group AdLink as Marketing Manager for their biggest market, UK and Ireland. She joined forces with the Internet Advertising Bureau to educate the media industry about the opportunities offered by online advertising.
In 2003, Marion joined Google as a founding member of its European marketing team. For 2 years Marion was the Marketing Manager for the UK and Ireland, Google’s largest international market. In the UK, Marion launched Google’s advertising programme AdWords and website monetisation program AdSense, as well as various consumer products such as GMail, Google Book Search, Google Maps, Google News.
She also created Google’s first ever branding campaign: Doodle4Google, that has since been used in over 20 markets, for which she received the Founders Award.
In 2005, Marion saw a great opportunity for Google in India. She kick started Google’s domestic operations in India and in 2006-2007 she was the Head of Marketing for India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, based in Bombay.
After her Asian experience, Marion turned her focus on the Middle East and Africa, where she held the post of Head of Marketing for 2 years. When she left Google in 2010, she was looking after the emerging markets of Eastern Europe for the Internet giant.
After consulting for a couple of years, Marion was appointed VP of Marketing EMEA by the fast-growing Internet ticketing and event marketplace Eventbrite, where she built a European team and doubled Europe’s contribution to its global revenue.
Marion left Eventbrite in April 2015 to launch MktgFuel, a Marketing Consultancy for fast growing tech startups, for whom she acts as “CMO on Demand”.
Marion has a data-driven and customer-focused approach which resonates strongly with the Betsson Group’s strategy.
